Pokhara
Nepal's second-largest city, Pokhara is renowned for its stunning lakeside setting, paragliding opportunities, and proximity to the Annapurna Range. The city perfectly balances adventure, relaxation, and natural beauty.
Overview
Pokhara's charm lies in its tranquil lakes, towering mountain backdrops, and adventure tourism infrastructure. The city serves as both a destination in itself and a launching point for world-class trekking. Unlike Kathmandu's urban intensity, Pokhara offers a more relaxed atmosphere with scenic promenades and cultural attractions.
History & Culture
Pokhara was historically a small trading hub on the route between India and Tibet. During the 1950s-60s, it emerged as a trekking base for expeditions to Annapurna and Machhapuchhre. The city transformed dramatically in the 1970s-80s as tourism boomed, with infrastructure developing around adventure sports and trekking outfitting. Today, it's Nepal's primary adventure tourism center.
